French & Indian War Action

My friend John was kind enough to run his Ft. Sandusky game for us. It is close to home since the fort was built very close to where we are located (Sandusky Ohio).  This scenario will be run at our HMGS Great Lakes Con, Advance the Colors, this Sept.
Local Indian warriors debate whether to join the French and help defend the fort or leave.  Meanwhile, the British land troops from their ship in the bay.
Closer view of the warriors.
A British ship fires down Cold Creek directly at the fort.
Better view of the game table. Cold Creek runs through the middle of the table.  It outlets into Lake Erie via Sandusky Bay.
Heavy skirmishes break out along a path East of the Creek.
Couple of mid-game photos showing the skirmishes.
The British regulars approach the fort West of the creek!
The crackle of musketry.
The French start to fall back into the fort.
In the end the Brits push what's left of the French back into the fort. The Indians decide they don't like what is happening and pack up for another day.  Minor victory went to the British since they scattered the Indians, bloodied the Frenchies noses, and basically controlled all but the fort itself. But it did cost them quite a bit in casualties.

A Few More Paint Table Completions...

These are just a few of what has been completed this summer...
Ugh... I was bitten by the Dux Brit. bug by TFL's.  So, I've been painting dark ages since!

Some Paint Table Stuff

These are a few new civilians for the pirate game.
Oh and by the way.  I never really got my workbench cleanup up much.  It's better though;)

Drums at the Rapids - Pirate Game - May 17th, 18th 2013

The Brits plan to cut the Pirates off from shore.  They want to block any landing parties.

The pirates on upper left plan to land assault parties and deal a blow to the Royal Navy.  The French control the island.

A fast moving pirate sloop (bottom left) gets by while the other runs into some trouble.

Two French shore guns (in the citadel) start to shoot at the pirate ships.  Will the French & British put their differences aside long enough to stop the pirates from 'springing' Capt. Jack from the jail?

Looks like one of the pirate sloops has run aground on one of the small islands.

Hmm.... Pirate Captains have a quick conference.  And they thought all they had to do was defeat the French!  That sinking Royal Navy!!

Night falls on this day's game with the Royal Navy running 2 pirate ships off & sinking another.  Victory to French & Brits on Friday nights game.

Next morning's game sees additional pirates popping up while the Brits try to slow the landing parties.

For Saturday's game we changed the board so there is more land mass then water.  Also the full town and harbor is in place.

Hmm... wonder where Capt. Jack is?

The pirates land some men (and women!) and ready themselves for land combat.

The civilians run for cover!

More pirates show up from land!

Saturday's game ended with victory to the French and British.  At one point the French player made a deal with the pirates in order to win the game.  Unfortunately for pirates the French Governor reneged on his 'pact' and quickly fired into the pirates.  This treachery insured the British and French a win.  It was a fun game and all involved seemed to really enjoy it.  Now... some day I promise to publish the rules!!

Workbench Cleanup Time!!!

OK... I don't think I'm alone here when I can honestly say that my workspace tends to, let's say, get outta hand.  It seems that with my visions and my two sons interests, things just build up and overcrowd the workspace.  This week I plan on cleaning up my workbenches.
Above are what is next on the bench.  Mainly Modern/Post-Apocalyptic Zombie stuff.  You might be able to make out the West Wind motorcycle gang.  This is a pretty bid project.  We have some modern zombie stuff already so hopefully when this next wave is complete we will have about 160 28mm zombies and about the same number of humans.
The side bench is above.  One maybe able to spot a unit of Spanish WSS troops for the pirate game.  I know... this is too much clutter.
A little to the left of this bench is the LotR project and some 40k stuff.  Not mine, but collecting dust all the same.
Better view of the modern stuff and the motorcycles.
Elephants and Sloth Buggies!  Oh boy, cleanup is needed!  I will post the clean up photos (hopefully soon).

Cincycon - Pirates

"Rusty Parker setting up his game, Pieces of Eight, a Caribbean Pirate game that finds Captain Jack getting into trouble once more and the players go out to rescue him back."

These three photos were taken by Alex Weaver with UC and wcpo.com. A fine job by Alex indeed!

Rusty is in the first photo dawning a black pirate shirt (of course). John is in the second photo while the Royal Marine landing party is in the third. Hmmm... I wonder what is in the chest???

Cincycon 2013 28mm Pirate Game

Successive turns proved that the pirates were not going to have their way on the water. The pirate brig. Anne Bonnie took heavy fire from the RN sloop Caledonia and the RN brig. Avenger. In a last ditch effort she rammed/collided with the Caledonia. The impossible happened - both ships were damaged to the point that they were both doomed to slip beneath the water! Just for save measures the RN brig. Sea Gypsy gave the Anne Bonnie a final broadside that speed up the sinking! She also fired on the other pirate brig. Tempest. The Tempest grappled the Sea Gypsy and a bloody boarding action ensued. The Sea Gypsy's crew barely beat back the assaults. A turn later what was left of the Tempest's crew struck their colors! It was all but over for the battle on the water. The pirates faired much better on land though. They were able to assault the town and defeat the French garrison thus stopping the prisoner exchange (the French were going to trade Cpt. Jack to the British for gold). The game ended in a draw. Pirates won on land but the Royal Navy won on the water. Thanks to all who played. It was a very fun time.
